5 Myths About Gaining Weight

In today’s society there has been an increased fixation on the way we look and especially with how much we weigh. Diet culture has led us to believe that healthy means we are skinny and fit, when in reality healthy looks different on everyone. This culture is dangerous and can lead to disordered eating, feelings of shame about the way you look, and general disappointment about yourself. EVOLVE thoroughly believes that beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, races, and genders and that this toxic culture needs to come to an end! Beauty has no limits, and we want to share common 5 myths about weight gain.

Myth 1: Gaining weight only happens from eating food/ “bad” food. FALSE! Stress, your environment, and emotional health can influence weight gain and loss all of which is completely normal! Bodies are constantly evolving so be gentle with yourself when you notice a change.

Myth 2: Your worth changes if you gain weight. FALSE! You do not need to conform to society’s ridiculous expectations. You deserve to take up space and your worth never changes even if your body does!

Myth 3: You need to eat less to not gain weight. FALSE! Eat whatever you want and don’t let anyone tell you that’s wrong. You know your body and what it needs so enjoy your life and eat what you desire! If your body is asking for something the best thing you can do is listen.

Myth 4: Eating before bed will make you gain weight. FALSE! Studies have shown that eating before bed may not give you the best sleep, but it will not have any significant effect on your weight. Don’t punish yourself for having late night snacks, so if you are craving something, eat it! You deserve it!

Myth 5: Your body needs to stay the same, and it’s bad if it changes. FALSE! Change can be scary, but it is completely natural and there is no need to feel ashamed of it. You are a beautiful soul no matter what you look like!

We hope this can help you see that size does not define you, and you are so much more than the number on the scale. You are most beautiful when you accept yourself for how and who you truly are!
